Secondly, he will take you through Belize City and give some brief information about Belize. He will then make his way towards the George Price Highway as you make your way to western Belize. Sit back and enjoy rural Belize and also see the small villages and communities come alive as you pass through them to get to our destination.
Xunantunich is an Ancient Mayan archaeological site in western Belize, about 80 miles west of Belize City or about 8 miles west of San Ignacio Town in the Cayo District. Since it is located atop a ridge above the Mopan River, it is well within sight of Guatemala. It served as a Maya civic ceremonial center in the Late and Terminal Classic periods at a time when the region was at its’ peak with nearly 200,000 people living in Belize. Most importantly, learn the history of the Mayas in this area and why this site is known as “Stone Woman”.
After visiting Xunantunich you will have some time to purchase lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Belize City where you will be given a short tour on the Southside of Belize City before being dropped off at the Fort Street Tourism Village.
