‘Must Haves’ for Spring Break 2018

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

It’s finally here. Spring Break 2018 is about to kickoff in a few days and almost everyone you know is about to get down and dirty on a sunny beach somewhere in the tropics. Are you ready? If you’re not, or if this is your first Spring Break where you will be chilling in the tropics (possibly away from the parental units), we have a few things here that you absolutely must have on your trip.

  1. Hat and Sunglasses

Ok, so you’re probably thinking designer sunglasses. Not necessary! In Belize, we really don’t care. Grab some super dark sunglasses, they’re great for people watching and your best floppy hat or peak cap. If you forgot your hat, no worries, just about all the shops in the downtown area here carry them. Of course, the dirty cheap ones can be found at places like Golden Bay and Simon Quan in Belize City.

  1. Swim trunks or bikini

We all know you won’t be able to resist the temptation to get in the water. The Caribbean Sea is just too much for any one person to ignore. So, be ready with your cool swim trunks or bikini. Make sure you try them on before beach day to make sure they fit you exactly the way you want them to. The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable while strutting your stuff on the beach.

  1. Beach towel or Sarong

You will be showing quite a bit of skin for most of your trip. In the event you want to cover some of it up (highly unlikely), take along a beach towel or sarong. You’ll also find that it can come in quite handy when you need to sit on hot surfaces or lie on the beach.

  1. Beach Bag

Because we never leave home without our phones anymore, you’ll need somewhere to put your phone when you are ready to take a dip. It also comes in handy so you don’t lose your keys, money and sunscreen.

  1. Romper

If you’re a girl, then you can’t forget your romper. On the islands in Belize, your usual beach romper can be worn day or night. You know you look cute in your romper, so don’t forget to bring that baby with you.

  1. Bicycle

While you may plan to spend most of your time at the beach, there’s a strong chance that you’ll also want to tour the island or town you’re in. Rent a bicycle so you can move about anytime you want. Word of advice, rent the bike for the duration of your visit. It will be way cheaper than the daily rates. Plus, your bike will allow you to get to some of the secret spots much better than a golf cart or car. Be sure to get a lock for your bike too. You don’t want to end up paying for the entire bike because someone stole it while you were swimming.

  1. Underwater camera or GoPro

This is by far, the best thing you can do. If you’ve chosen Belize, then you already know that we have the 2nd largest Barrier Reef  and 1st largest living Barrier Reef in the world. There are amazing underwater life and formations to see. There’s just no way you can come during Spring Break and not take back proof to your friends that you were in ‘Mother Nature’s Best Kept Secret’.

  1. Take a Guided Tour

Apart from the beach, there are so many other things in Belize that you can see and do during Spring Break. I’d suggest making a list of what all you’d like to see and get a guided tour to some places. It’s going to be much more comfortable than taking public transportation for a diy experience. If you choose wisely, guided tours in Belize may give you quite a bit more than promised.

  1.  Lizard Juice & Belikin Beer

I know, it sounds weird right? But, trust me they’re delicious. Belikin is the locally brewed beer and there are several flavors of it. By far, a stronger brew than most countries. Lizard juice… I’ll let you figure that one out for yourself when you get here. Remember to still drink responsibly, even during Spring Break.

  1. Relaxation

Relax, you’re in paradise. ‘Go slow’, meet new people and just enjoy yourself during your week off. That is after all what Spring Break was invented for.
